Faith Walk

The Rebuke of Adam and Eve (1626) by Domenico Zampieri

When earth was young and yet held dew

She learned to crawl,

Heart throbbing to the leisure of

Divine footfall.

In that dawning land dwelt Adam,

Man of her dust,

Whose spirit rose to meet the Eye

Of unearned trust.

Two legs God bestowed not to stand

But with Him stride.

One foot falls, the other catches,

Faith over pride.

Yet here enters another pair,

One with his own.

Soon her left doubts his right, tripping

On snake and stone.

Where her foot fell another saved,

That of her Son.

The New Adam lift Her atop

The Evil One.
