Smokin’ Man

Classic Cowboy Rolling Cigarette (1904) by Adolf Methfessel

Some might say I’m a mighty old soul

And I’m sure that they are right.

I wouldn’t care to mine for coal

Nor have me no noon gunfight.

But if ya took my toilet, I’d fill a hole.

And without a phone, I’d do alright.

If I lost my car, I’d break a foal

Honey, let’s make love by candle light.

But to tell the truth, whole and plain

There’s just one thing I want to do,

To go back before the doctors sayin’

That smokin’ is bad for you.

I’d grow me some tobacca,

Roll me a dozen or so.

I’d skip the filter and think of

All the things I don’t know.

Cus’ those the things that can’t hurt ya

Though the stress of knowin’ can.

So forget what the doctor told ya’

And make you a smokin’ man.
