The Great Narnian Welcome
Photo from cslewis.com
How high did the blade of Rhindon climb
In the long arm of High King Peter
When that mighty lurch of space and time
Brought a treat than silver apples sweeter?
I wonder did Susan wipe a tear
From her milky cheek on silken sleeve
Or notch an arrow, lit with fire’s cheer,
To torch a sky not half make-believe?
And what words did Edmund’s remorse stitch
To clothe his shame before the wordsmith
Who bore him by pen from the White Witch
To the highland of the one True Myth?
And how pretty must Lucy have felt,
Golden hair shining for its author?
I stake her cordial she unbelt
To heal the years spent for him heartsore.
But what my heart most wishes I saw
Is Jack’s own face, his smile’s span,
Surprised by Joy in New Narnia,
One hand to him, her other on Aslan.
Dedication: To C. S. Lewis, a personal hero.
