The Knight of Faith

The Accolade (1901) by Edmund Blair Leighton
Even the strongest knight
Bows low before the queen
For his greatest fight
Is the one that isn’t seen.
Each man is a weapon
In the hand of his master
Slave, for death, to sin
Or, for life, to his Mother.
She is no more a mere woman
Than the cross is mere wood.
She is nothing less than
The source of all earthly good.
From her came the Prince,
The Savior of the land,
For whom the knight has since
Declared to take his stand.
