Home in Rome
Statue of St. Peter (1840) by Giuseppe De Fabris
My heart doth tire, my soul is lost,
And every day I count the cost
In tears by fellow travelers shed
For what I did, for what I said.
I shall no longer trust my mind
For I see well that I am blind,
And as this tongue has denied Thee
So shall I from it flee.
In that flight of darkest night
I perceive an ancient light.
There I find the church built on rock
There I am named among His flock.
My father gives me his embrace
And bids me come, eat of Grace.
He says no more shall I roam
For I have come home.
I am at home, come to my home
I am in Rome, join me in Rome.
